Prif bwrpas y wefan yma yw rhoi gwybodaeth i ddysgwyr CELT ynglyn a'r maes llafur ar gyfer yr arholidadau a'r deunydd sydd ar gael i'w helpu gyda'u hyfforddiant. The main purpose of this site is to inform CELT learners of the syllabus for the examinations and the materials available to assist them with their training. Anyone is welcome to use the information as they wish although CELT cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies contained within the site itself or within any other material to which it may refer.

1 Y mae llafur / The Syllabus

Fel unrhyw arholiad arall mae yna faes llafur penodol i’w ddilyn os ydych am lwyddo. Mae’r Asiantaeth Safonau Gyrru yn Asiantaeth Weithredol o’r Adran Amgylchfyd, Trafnidiaeth a’r Broydd y llywodraeth, ac maent yn gyfrifol am osod y safonau i’r prawf ysgrifenedig yn ogystal a’r prawf ymarferol. Eu moto yw "Gyrru diogel am oes". Er mwyn cyrraedd y safon mae’r Asiantaeth Safonau Gyrru’n gosod y safon ar gyfer y profion ac yn gosod cod ymddygiad i’r Hyfforddwyr Gyrru Trwyddedig. Yn naturiol mae CELT yn cytuno gyda rhain ac yn eu derbyn fel safonau i’r proffesiwn ac mae’r rhaglen hyfforddi wedi ei osod o amgylch y maes llafur hwnnw.

Mae’r maes llafur swyddogol fel a’i amlinellwyd yn llyfr yr asiantaeth sef "The Official Driving Test" (ISBN 0-11-552254-9) yn gosod y maes llafur dan y penawdau yma:

Like any other exam a set syllabus must be followed in order to achieve success. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is an Executive Agency of the Government’s Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) and is responsible for setting the standards for both the theory and practical test. Their motto is "Safe driving for life". In order to achieve the standard The DSA set the syllabus for the tests and set the Code of Practice for Approved Driving Instructors (ADI). (see Appendix 1).

Naturally CELT agree with and accept those standards as the ‘industry standard’ and the training programme is therefore geared around that syllabus.

The Officially recommended Syllabus as stipulated in the DSA’s book "The Official Driving Test" (ISBN 0-11-552254-9) outlines the syllabus under the following headings:

legal requirements (age, eyesight, medical, licence, roadworthiness, insurance, L plates, supervision, seat belt, under 14s)
car controls, equipment and components
road user behaviour (causes of accidents, vulnerable groups, drink drive, fatigue, drugs, anticipation, courtesy)
vehicle characteristics (braking distances, other vehicles & bicycles)
road and weather conditions (hazards, urban & speed driving, surfaces)
traffic signs rules and regulations (speed limits, parking restrictions, pedestrian crossings, traffic signs & road markings)
car control and road procedure (manoeuvring, safety, positioning, stop-start, control, observations, accuracy, make progress, clearance, overtake, meet, cross, turn l/r, roundabouts, emergency stop etc)
additional knowledge (tyre pressures, skid procedure etc)
motorway driving (acquire sound knowledge, understand special rules and driving techniques)

What To Bring With You On The Day

Theory Test Before leaving home, make sure that you have all the necessary documents you will need to bring with you for your test appointment. You will need

your signed driving licence and suitable photographic ID, or
both parts of your signed photocard licence, and
your appointment card or booking number.

If you don't bring the correct documents with you on the day, you won't be able to take your test and you'll lose your fee. If you have any queries about what photographic evidence we will accept, contact the enquiry line on 0870 010 1372.

Arrive in plenty of time so that you aren't rushed.

Practical Driving Test Before leaving home to meet your Instructor, make sure that you have all the necessary documents you will need to bring with you for your test appointment. You will need

a provisional driving licence issued in Great Britain(GB), or a GB full licence giving the provisional entitlement
a provisional driving licence issued in Northern Ireland(NI), or a full licence giving the provisional entitlement
an EC/EEA licence accompanied by a GB licence counterpart, if you want to take a test for a category not covered by your full EU licence.

If you have a photo licence you must bring with you the counterpart, which is part of the licence.

Photographic Identity for both Theory and/or Practical Tests

Other photographic identification you may bring includes

a current signed passport, or document of like nature, which doesn't have to be a British passport
any of the following identification cards provided it has your photograph and your signature

workplace identity card
trade union or students' union membership card
card for the purchase of reduced price rail ticket
school bus pass
cheque guarantee card or credit card
gun licence
proof of age card (issued by the Portman Group)

a photograph of yourself, which has been signed and dated on the back by an acceptable person, confirming that the photograph is a true likeness of you. A signature will be accepted from the following

Approved Driving Instructor
DSA certified motorcycle instructor
Member of Parliament
local authority councillor
teacher (qualified)
Justice of the Peace
civil servant (established)
police officer
bank official
minister of religion
barrister or solicitor
medical practitioner
LGV trainer on DSA Voluntary Register of LGV Instructors
commissioned officer in HM forces

Your test will be cancelled if you cannot provide one of these forms of identification.

Your Test Vehicle

Make sure that the vehicle you intend to drive or the motorcycle you intend to ride is

legally roadworthy and has a current MOT certificate, if it's over the prescribed age
fully covered by insurance for its present use and for you to drive.

Your examiner will ask you to sign a declaration that your insurance is in order. The test will not be conducted if you are unable/unwilling to do so.

Note: A hire car is unlikely to be insured for the driving test. You should check with the hire company before you sign the declaration at the test centre.

Your vehicle should also display

a valid tax disc (unless exempt)
L plates (or, if you wish, D plates, if taking your test in Wales) displayed to the front and rear.

Your vehicle must also have

a fully functional seat belt fitted to the front passenger seat
a head restraint fitted to the front passenger seat
an additional interior rear-view mirror suitable for use by the examiner.

Specially adapted vehicles may be exempt from these requirements.

If you overlook any of these

your test will be cancelled
you may lose your fee.
